 State Commander’s Motto
"Communicate-Educate-Motivate"

The American Legion, particularly The American Legion Department of Tennessee, must achieve notoriety this next year by representing the four pillars of The American Legion; that is Americanism, Security, Veterans, and Youth.

We will achieve this notoriety through Communication, Education and Motivation.  We must do our best to "Communicate" across the entire spectrum, not only within our posts; but post to post, post to district, between districts, and on up the chain to Department Headquarters.  We must "Educate" ourselves in the use of, thus taking advantange of today's virtual media, including the use of social websites (i.e. facebook) and developing Post, District, and Division websites.  This will allow us to "Educate" the general public that The American Legion is a steadfast advocate for American Military Veterans, a true friend of the US Military, a dedicated sponsor of community-based programs for our citizens, our youth, as well as being a strong spokesman for patriotic values.

We can achieve this vision through The American Legion Family's involvement and cooperation.  It takes Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion, as well as The American Legion Auxiliary to participate in this year's theme "Communicate, Educate and Motivate" and the value of teamwork as learned throughout our lives in include our military service for us to be successful.  We now continue to serve America through our many important programs; American Legion Riders, American Legion Boys State, American Legion Baseball, Oratorical, Junior Shooting Sports, and the Boys Scouts to list a few.

I ask each Division, District and Post Commander to become thoroughly familiar with all American Legion programs and assign fellow Legionnaires to those programs of their interest.  By working together we will achieve this vision.
