Title: Amend Article IV Section 1 of the Constitution of the Department of Tennessee

WHEREAS, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution and Bylaws was last revised June 02, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Article IV of The American Legion National Constitution determines membership eligibility in the organization; and
WHEREAS, By signing Form 30-009, The American Legion Membership Application, applicants for membership in The American Legion certify that they have served at least one day of active military duty during the organizations eligibility dates and were honorably discharged or are still serving honorably; and
WHEREAS, Article IV of the National Constitution states that each Post shall be the judge of its own membership; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by Post 254, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on September 5, 2019, That Article IV Section 1 of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution shall read: "All new applicants for membership in The American Legion, Department of Tennessee must file a written application for membership, and in addition, present for examination to a duly qualified officer of the Post or the Department, either their original discharge from the service, a DD Form 214, a certified or photostatic copy of either, or proof of honorable service."
