Title: Amend Article VI, National Executive Committeeman of the Constitution of the Department of Tennessee
Origin: Constitution and Bylaws Committee
 
WHEREAS, The National Executive Committee Member and Alternate National Executive Committee Member are elected biennially to serve the national organization as representatives of the Department of Tennessee; and
 
WHEREAS, The National Executive Committee Member yearly attends four called meetings of the National Executive Committee; and
 
WHEREAS, Increasing the tenure of the National Executive Committee Member and the Alternate National Executive Committee Member will enhance the consistency of communication with the national organization; and
 
WHEREAS, In order to extend the pool of eligible nominees for election to National Executive Committee Member and Alternate National Executive Committee Member; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, By the Department Constitution and Bylaws Committee, The American Legion, Department of Tennessee, in a regular meeting assembled on February 8, 2020, That Article VI of The American Legion, Department of Tennessee Constitution shall read; “ARTICLE VI, NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER, The National Executive Committee Member and an Alternate National Executive Committee Member shall be elected by the Department Convention at the convention next preceding the expiration of the terms of the present elected incumbents, the National Executive Committee Member and the Alternate National Executive Committee Member shall be elected biennially by the Department Convention at the convention next preceding the expiration of the terms of the present incumbents. The National Executive Committee Member and the Alternate National Executive Committee Member incumbents may elect to run for a total of two consecutive terms, or four years. In case of the death, resignation or removal of the National Executive Committee Member, the alternate shall serve for the unexpired term, or until the next succeeding Department Convention; in case of the death, resignation or removal of both the Committee Member and the Alternate Committee Member, the Department Commander shall appoint a successor to the office of National Committee Member, who shall serve until the next meeting of the Department Convention and/or until their successor be elected."
