Resolution Number 2020-28

Title:  District Realignment

Origin:  Resolutions Committee

WHEREAS, The Department of Tennessee is, according to its Constitution and Bylaws, divided into three Grand Divisions; and

WHEREAS, The Department of Tennessee is further divided into 10 Districts; and

WHEREAS, Each Post is assigned into a specific District; and

WHEREAS, It has been several years since the Department has realigned its Districts; and

WHEREAS, The current Districts are drawn by County boundaries; and

WHEREAS, One District currently, because of county boundaries, is composed of Posts within two different Time Zones; and

WHEREAS, Because of Post creation and/or Post closures, the Districts are not reasonably equal in Post number or membership goals; and

WHEREAS, The current Divisional boundaries are unequal in veteran penetration; and

WHEREAS, Currently, we have a District composed of 26 Posts with a membership goal of over 5000 members; and

WHEREAS, Another District composed of 11 Posts with a membership goal of 1137; and

WHEREAS, Delegate Voting Strength is based on membership with each post; and

WHEREAS, The current configuration give one District a distinct election advantage over the remaining nine Districts; and

WHEREAS, The responsibility of the District Commander is the same for each District; and

WHEREAS, The District Commanders are judged for awards using the same criteria; and

WHEREAS, Divisional awards are judged by the same criteria; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the number of Districts and Divisions remain the same; and, be it

RESOLVED, If approved, the realignment will become effective upon adjournment of the 2021 Department Convention; and be it further

RESOLVED, If approved, the District Commanders for the upcoming year be from the realigned Districts; and therefore be finally

RESOLVED, The Posts are redistricted with each District having jurisdiction of the following Posts:
